FAQ

Someone told me my chair had machine caning, what is that and do you fix that?

Yes we do repair that type of cane. That is also called pressed cane and although the weave is not done by hand, the repair is all done by hand and it is a little less expensive—generally speaking—than the traditional hand caning.

How long will it take to get my chair caned?

Chair caning and cane repair is all done by hand and is a laborious task. So, depending on how many chairs we have, it may take a week or 6 weeks.

I have an old antique caned chair and am wondering if it makes sense to have it recaned?

Most chairs manufactured today are not made like they were years ago, and thus they will generally not last as long. If you have an older chair that is well built, having it recaned will often make sense as the chair will probably outlast you if it was well made!

Do you do cane repair on all types of furniture and chairs?

We do cane repair on chairs, rockers, headboards, and pretty much any other piece of furniture that has cane on it, but mostly we see a lot of chairs.

What about the different types of caning patterns, can you replicate what we have?

Maybe. There are many different types of patterns, and some of which are just too time consuming to do and the cost would be prohibitive, but usually there are good patterns to choose from.

How about rush seat weaving, do you repair that also?

Rush is a type of caning that looks different than the traditional caning and yes we do that as well.
